Final Fairing and First Coat of Primer to the Deck (3-2-25)
Mar 2, 2025
Over the weekend of March 1st and 2nd, I continued the march toward priming the deck. The primary obstacles were fairing work required on the aft and foredeck - both repair areas. The aft deck was a repair to the core material that I was responsible for, and the foredeck was a repair that had been executed some time prior to arriving to the shop. Saturday, the 1st of March was spent sanding the decks down with both the 6" and 5" sander, as well as the more accurate tool - the human hand. With the sanding completed, I applied another round of fairing compound, this time using the TotalBoat 2-part epoxy fairing putty. This 2-part system when mixed, one yellow and one blue, results in a green putty that can be spread fairly easily. I applied this to both the fore and aft deck areas.
The next day, I arrived and sanding back the fairing putty, and ensured that the surfaces were shaped, blended, and faired. Satisfied with the results, I mixed the first batch of primer and gathered necessary tools and materials to apply the primer to the deck. While the batch of primer was going through its induction period, I wiped the surfaces through a solvent-wash and generally prepped for the application of the primer. After the 15-minute induction, I applied the primer in a rather unceremonious process. First coat on and turning to the brightwork fabrication!
Total Hrs: 4 (for March 1st and 2nd)
